Autumn Leaf Art

Our kids love collecting colourful leaves every fall. Once pressed they make wonderful art collages. You can use sticks, seeds or other autumn treasures to add to their art.

  • Paper towel (optional)
  • Heavy books
  • Leaves
  • Card-stock or paper
  • Googly eyes
  • Glue

  1. Start by collect leaves. Choose leaves that are relatively flat, not curled, and that don’t have bumps or black spots.
  2. Press the leaves between two pieces of paper towel inside a heavy book. Place more books, a weight, or a rock on top of the book to add more weight. Keep the book in a dry location.
  3. Check the pressing after about one week.
  4. Apply glue to card stock or paper and start sticking the leaves onto it as desired. Let the kids imagination run free to create some incredible art collages.

If you want to be more environmental friendly, simply place leaves for pressing in the book as they are, but make sure to use an old book, as it may damage the pages with time.

Make sure to keep some of the pressed leaves for these wonderful Christmas cards.
